DESIGNER'S NOTES
This classic silver plated pendant features a gold variation of the central polka dot pattern from the painting Hope II (1907-08) by Gustav Klimt.
Hope II confronts the tension between life, desire, and mortality through layered symbolism. A pregnant woman dominates the composition, her body adorned with polka dot and mosaic patterns, linking fertility to transcendence and divine energy.
Surrounding her, abstracted patterns evoke organic growth and decay simultaneously, while ghostly skeletal figures and a partially obscured infant suggest the inescapable presence of death. Klimt’s colour palette contrasts warm golds and soft flesh tones with darker, cooler shades, creating emotional ambiguity.
Influences range from Byzantine mosaics to Symbolist explorations of the subconscious. Klimt’s use of vertical and spiral motifs to suggest cyclical time and the persistence of life, embed a philosophical meditation within ornamental elegance.
STYLING
The pendant is a few centimetres in diameter with a 450mm chain, so style outside high necklines, or against the skin with lower necklines. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver bracelet.
