A stunning gold, copper and purple Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf detailing the unique pattern styles developed by Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) in this example from his 1907 work Wasserschlangen II, translated in English as The Water Serpents.

One of Klimt’s signature techniques is the application of gold leaf and other metallic materials. These elements are used to create intricate patterns, catching the light, and adding a tactile and visual richness to his work. 

In Wasserschlangen II  Klimt masterfully employs gold leaf to enhance the painting's opulent and dreamlike quality. The gold is intricately applied to create shimmering forms that draw the viewer’s eye and evoke a sense of fluidity and luxury, reflecting the painting's aquatic theme. It delineates decorative elements, such as the women's flowing hair, the serpentine curves of their bodies, and the abstract shapes surrounding them.
