Mackintosh Lady with Rose Bangle

DESIGNER'S NOTES

This silver-plated bangle incorporates a motif from a tea room menu designed by the Scottish architect and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868–1928) for a temporary exhibition around 1900.

The design embodies his balance of symbolism and function, featuring a stylised woman and rose that express purity, renewal, and refinement. The woman’s elongated form and geometric drapery complement the linear structure of the composition, transforming a practical object into art.

The rose, a recurring emblem of spiritual and feminine beauty, softens the geometry. Echoing his interiors for Miss Cranston’s tea rooms, the design reflects Mackintosh’s vision of unity between art, architecture, and identity.

STYLING

The bangle image is a few centimetres in diameter on an open ring. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver pendant or brooch.
