DESIGNER'S NOTES
A pink Fox & Chave silk tie with a floral design derived from the pattern Windrush created by William Morris (1834-1896).
The pattern was created in 1883 and represents a sophisticated evolution of Morris' textile philosophy. Named after a tributary of the Thames, this design exemplifies Morris’s transition from strict symmetry to a more fluid, organic realism.
The composition features winding, serrated acanthus leaves that intertwine with delicate tulips and fritillaries. Unlike his earlier, flatter geometries, Windrush utilises a background of minute floral details, to create depth and movement. Printed using the labor-intensive indigo discharge method, it reflects Morris’s commitment to medieval craftsmanship and natural dyes, standing as a rhythmic celebration of the English riverbank’s untamed elegance.
