DESIGNER'S NOTES
A brilliant Fox & Chave printed silk tie with a design of paint splashes and droplets in multiple bright colours over a cobalt blue ground.
Splash techniques for applying paint go far beyond the most well-known practitioner Jackson Pollock, and evolved into a radical vehicle for physical performance, conceptual expression, and textural weight.
In late 1950s Japan, Shozo Shimamoto of the Gutai movement smashed glass bottles filled with paint onto canvases, using violent splatters to capture raw energy and destruction. Later, Richard Serra adapted the gesture into sculpture through his Casting series, hurling molten lead against studio walls to let liquid impact form rigid, monumental shapes.
Contemporary artists like Niki de Saint Phalle fired rifles at paint-filled balloons embedded in plaster (Tirs), transforming the accidental splash into a provocative critique of violence, chance, and performance art.
STYLING
A Fox & Chave silk tie looks best tied in a classic Windsor or half-Windsor knot and worn with a collar style of your choosing. Cutaway or spread collars offer the greatest opportunity to display the detail of your unique silk tie design.
