Arts & Crafts Birds Chiffon Scarf

DESIGNER'S NOTES

A resplendent Fox & Chave chiffon silk scarf with a design of stylised British birds amongst intertwining Oak leaves and other foliage in shades of green and blue in a style typical of the Arts & Crafts movement that flourished in Europe and North America between 1880 and 1920.

Oak leaves were frequently used as a design motif, embodying the movement's ideals and aesthetic principles symbolising strength, endurance, and natural beauty, with the robust and enduring qualities of the oak tree aligning with the Arts & Crafts emphasis on durability and timeless design.

Oak leaf patterns and bird motifs were often hand-drawn and incorporated into various crafts, including textiles, wallpaper, ceramics, and furniture. This handcrafted approach highlighted the movement's rejection of industrial mass production in favour of artisanal techniques.

Birds were used in Arts & Crafts designs patterns to symbolise freedom and the beauty of nature.
