DESIGNER'S NOTES

A blue Fox & Chave silk tie featuring a geometric repeat of dodecahedrons, that might serve as over-simplistic representation of an atomic structure in accordance with the 1986 theory of Robert Moon. (1911-1989).

Moon's model reimagined the atomic nucleus as a nested geometric lattice, positioning protons at the vertices of four concentric Platonic solids culminating in an outer dodecahedron. This pattern acts as an oversimplified diagram by rendering that single outer 12-sided shell while omitting the internal cube, octahedron, and icosahedron nested within its core.

While visually striking, Moon’s framework is counter to modern physics. Quantum mechanics demonstrates that protons exist as probabilistic wave functions, governed by quantum chromodynamics and fluid nuclear shell states rather than static geometry.

The regular dodecahedron is one of the five classic Platonic solids, constructed from twelve congruent regular pentagons with three meeting at each vertex.

Historically revered, Plato linked this unique shape to the cosmos and the arrangement of the heavens. Today, dodecahedrons manifest across various domains, ranging from viral protein capsids and mineral crystals in nature to twelve-sided gaming dice and mysterious, hollow Roman bronze artefacts uncovered across Western Europe.
