Hiroshige Iris Silk Habotai Scarf

DESIGNER'S NOTES

A marvellous Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring a scene of rural Japan in the ukiyo-e style after an original named Horikiri no Hanashōbu or Horikiri Iris Garden which is No.64 in the famous series 100 Views of Edo by the Japanese artist Uttagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858).

100 Views of Edo is segmented by seasons and this work falls under the Summer part of the series. It depicts large blooming Iris flowers in the foreground on the near side of a river or stream. On the far side are more blooms of same and a depiction of several figures in a grassy meadow beyond. It is unclear if they are tending the land or at leisure.

The largest portion of the work is an expansive blue sky that meets the horizon with a dark orange indicating the waning sun of the later summer.

A Fox & Chave habotai silk scarf can be worn with the classic knot style or a pussycat bow.
