DESIGNER'S NOTES

This distinctive Fox & Chave silk tie features an element from an Art Nouveau poster design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928). The original image features a central female figure framed by a pair of doves, burnt orange discs and green thistle stems.

British Art Nouveau, also known as Modern Style, can be traced back to the Arts and Crafts movement, which emerged in the 1860s emphasising nature-inspired designs in reaction to growing industrialisation, and developed slightly earlier than the continental European Art Nouveau style.

Charles Rennie Mackintosh, reinterpreted organic forms in simplified, often geometric motifs that imbued the movement with a unique character. Natural themes, such as flowers, leaves, and vines, were central to his work, reimagined into intricate patterns and forms inspired by British flora and Celtic folklore.
