DESIGNER'S NOTES
A pale blue floral Fox & Chave silk tie featuring a design of highly stylised tulips created by William Morris (1834-1896).
Morris frequently incorporated the tulip into his textiles and wallpapers, valuing its structured, elegant form over more chaotic natural shapes. Rather than striving for flat, scientific realism, Morris stylised the tulip, using its elongated stems, broad leaves, and distinct blooms to establish a rhythmic, undulating movement across a surface.
In iconic designs like Tulip (1875) and Medway (1885), the flower serves as a bold structural anchor, reflecting his belief that decorative arts should bring the organic beauty of an English garden indoors through thoughtful, disciplined pattern.
