DESIGNER'S NOTES

A large floral Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf featuring a design created from an element of the still life study entitled A Bouquet of Pink Peonies, (1873) by the Danish-French Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro (1830-1903).

Pissarro was born in St. Thomas in what is now the US Virgin Islands, but that was previously a part of the Danish West Indies. Sent to boarding school in France by his father, he returned to the island at the age of 16 or 17, whereupon the influences of the French artistic tradition and the culture of the Caribbean and South America began to meld.

He returned to France in 1859 for further study and apprenticeship in the art of painting, befriending fellow impressionists Monet and Cézanne, the former he would reconcile with a decade later in England where both men concluded the central tenet of the impressionist style after studying the works of Constable and Turner, that; "... the style of open air painting gave the truest depiction of light and atmosphere."
