This Fox & Chave silk tie has an understated equine design, with a subtle reference to the technology involved in horse riding with a woven repeat of gold stirrups over a ruby red ground.
The invention of the stirrup had profound military significance, revolutionising cavalry tactics and warfare. Stirrups provided riders with greater stability and balance while mounted, they could stand up in the saddle, allowing them to use weapons more effectively without fear of falling off.
In English, the word stirrup comes from an old English word meaning 'mounting or climbing rope'.
