DESIGNER'S NOTES
The Strawberry thief repeat textile design available on this fine Fox & Chave silk tie is perhaps one of William Morris' most iconic. This variation uses a blue colour palette.
The inspiration for the design came when Morris was at his Oxfordshire home in England, Klemscott Manor, and saw thrushes at work in his kitchen garden making off with the fruits of his strawberry crop. The intricate printing process used for its first production in 1881, some six years after initial attempts, resulted in the design being amongst the most expensive available from the Morris Co.
