DESIGNER'S NOTES
A unique and fascinating Fox & Chave silk tie with a colourful view of the cells from a zebrafish (Danio rerio).
Zebrafish cells are widely used in biology and biochemistry for their genetic similarity to humans, rapid development, and transparency. They serve as models for studying embryonic development, genetic disorders, toxicology, and disease mechanisms, including cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative conditions.
Zebrafish cells are particularly valuable in regenerative medicine since they can regenerate heart, spinal cord, and retinal cells. Their embryos allow real-time imaging of cellular processes, making them ideal for studying gene expression and protein function.
Biochemically, zebrafish are used to analyse drug metabolism, enzyme activity, and signalling pathways. High-throughput screening using zebrafish cells accelerates drug discovery, enabling the testing of thousands of compounds for therapeutic potential. Genetic manipulation techniques, further enhance their utility in modelling human diseases.
