Van Gogh Almond Blossom Silk Tie

DESIGNER'S NOTES

This Fox & Chave silk tie features an element from the painting Almond Blossom (1890) by the dutch post-impressionist artist Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890)

The painting was begun by Van Gogh on the news of the birth of his nephew and namesake, Vincent Willem Van Gogh, the son of his brother Theo with whom the artist kept constant correspondence throughout his life, and who supported him financially to enable his pursuit of a life as a painter.

A favourite subject of Van Gogh's, the blossom signifies the coming spring, with the painting intended as a gift for the newborn who arrived on 31st January of that year.

Vincent Willem would go on to create the forerunner of the Vincent Van Gogh museum by loaning the unsold private collection of his uncle's works that he had inherited in 1925, to the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. They were displayed there for many years before the dedicated museum was opened in 1973.
