DESIGNER'S NOTES
Trencadís is a mosaic technique that uses broken ceramic, glass or tile fragments to create vibrant, irregular surfaces, popularised by Antoni Gaudí in early twentieth-century Barcelona.
Rather than relying on uniform tesserae, trencadís embraces discarded or salvaged pieces, producing dynamic textures and shifting patterns that interact with light. It appears across architecture, furniture and decorative objects, turning structural forms into colourful, immersive artworks.
Gaudí used the method extensively in Parc Güell, the Casa Batlló and the Sagrada Família, integrating organic shapes with playful abstraction. Trencadís exemplifies a fusion of sustainability, creativity and the transformation of everyday materials into monumental visual expression.
STYLING
The pendant is a few centimetres in diameter with a 450mm chain, so style outside high necklines, or against the skin with lower necklines. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver bracelet.
