DESIGNER'S NOTES
This vibrant Fox & Chave silk habotai scarf offers a faithful representation of the dynamism of both colour and form present in the cubist work Guitar on a Table (1916) by Juan Gris.
Juan Gris was a prominent figure in the Cubist movement, revolutionising modern art with his geometric and abstract compositions. Born José Victoriano González-Pérez in 1887 in Madrid, Spain, Gris moved to Paris and became associated with artists like Picasso and Braque.
Cubism sought to shatter both traditions and subjects with its characteristic fragmented forms, geometric shapes, and multiple perspectives, intended to depict objects from multiple viewpoints simultaneously.
Gris's works exhibit a meticulous attention to detail, employing fragmented forms and vibrant colours to convey depth and dimension. His unique style fused analytical Cubism with elements of Synthetic Cubism, creating harmonious compositions that challenged traditional notions of representation.
