DESIGNER'S NOTES

A bright crimson Fox & Chave printed silk tie with a unique variation of the main pattern from the painting Hope II or Hoffnung II (1907-08) by the Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt (1862-1918)

In the painting a pregnant woman stands with bowed head, encased in an ornate, cloak-like garment. The gown's striking design relies on bold polka dots, concentric circles and organic, swirling spots, that dominate the lower fabric in red, vivid golds, blues, and blacks.

In Klimt’s visual universe, these circular and polka dot motifs carry deep symbolic weight. Contrasted against the sharp, angular skull of Death hiding within the folds, the repeated dots represent cellular life, fertility, and continuous cosmic cycles. Influenced by Japanese textiles and Byzantine mosaics, Klimt used these polka dots as decorative shields, balancing mortality's shadow with radiant, modern abstraction and life's persistent renewal.

STYLING

A Fox & Chave silk tie looks best tied in a classic Windsor or half-Windsor knot and worn with a collar style of your choosing. Cutaway or spread collars offer the greatest opportunity to display the detail of your unique silk tie design.
