DESIGNER'S NOTES
This classic silver plated pendant features a segment from the painting Bauerngarten (1907) by Gustav Klimt.
Translated as simply Flower Garden the painting abandons figural focus, immersing viewers in a dense, almost abstract tapestry of flora.
Painted during his 'Golden Phase,' the work showcases Klimt’s fascination with surface ornamentation and pattern, yet here gold is absent, replaced by vibrant, pulsating colour. Tiny blossoms, densely layered, create a sense of tactile depth, while compositional flattening challenges conventional perspective, making the viewer feel enveloped rather than observing.
Botanically, Klimt includes species with symbolic resonance, poppies for sleep and remembrance, daisies for innocence, woven into a visual rhythm that mirrors Art Nouveau’s sinuous lines. Less noted is the influence of Japanese woodblock prints on his floral arrangements, evident in the compressed spatial planes and decorative repetition.
STYLING
The pendant is a few centimetres in diameter with a 450mm chain, so style outside high necklines, or against the skin with lower necklines. Wear with jewellery of similar scale, such as a simple silver bracelet.
