DESIGNER'S NOTES
An evocative Fox & Chave silk bow tie with a pattern derived from an element of a menu design by Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928).
The menu was created for Miss Cranston's Exhibition Café at the Ingram Tea Rooms, a temporary venue created as part of the Glasgow Exhibition held in the city in 1911.
Held at Kelvingrove Park, the exhibition showcased contemporary arts, crafts, and industry, celebrating Glasgow's status as a leading centre of commerce and culture. A wide range of displays showcased fine art, architecture, engineering, and innovative designs, attracting visitors from across Britain and abroad.
Mackintosh also designed a series of interiors for the exhibition that embodied his distinctive style, combining geometric forms with organic motifs.
